Watercolor Painting

My senior art project has three inspirations and its message is especially pertinent to urban centers, where prejudice and pain are rampant. I chose: graffiti, the unique expression of the plight of inner cities; two images of bridges, Joseph Stella’s abstract painting, The Brooklyn Bridge and the Zakim Bridge in Boston, with its amazingly intricate cable-work and a piece of woodwork, Le Fleuron Manquant, by John Cederquist, which utilized multiple perspectives to offer a variety of views on a single subject. My ultimate goal is to convey the message: “If hope floated, then you wouldn’t need a bridge.” My words state that it does require hard work to establish hope within urban society, but through an understanding of one another, we can attain this goal.
